The Everest Base Camp Trek

The awe-inspiring trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal stands as the pinnacle of bucket list experiences. Although physically demanding, the Base Camp trek is worth all the trouble. This trip provides some EPIC views of some the tallest peaks in the world, including Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu and Cho Oyu. Not only this but experience the unique culture, traditions, rituals, and lifestyle of the Sherpa people firsthand whilst following in famous mountaineering footsteps.

Itinerary at a glance

Day 1 & 2: Kathmandu

Arrive in Kathmandu. After you clear Immigration and Customs, our Peirce & Leslie colleague will meet you in the arrival hall. He will escort you to your hotel and help you to check-in.

During your stay, you will visit Kathmandu’s main highlights – Kathmandu’s Durbar Square, Kumari Ghar and the Buddhist Stupa of Boudhanath. You will interact with the resident monks (subject to their availability) at Boudhanath and participate in the ‘puja’ (worship ritual) ceremony. Note: Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple. However, the sites surrounding the temple are very interesting.

Day 3: Ramechhap

You will drive to Ramechhap (approximately 4 – 4.5 hours, excluding stops).

On the way, you will visit the charming town of Bhaktapur which is a living representation of how the entire Kathmandu Valley looked during medieval times.

You will then continue your journey and on arrival, you will check-in to your hotel.

Day 4: Monjo

You will fly to Lukla and then then set off on your trek to Monjo (2,850 meters), a small village on the banks of the Dudh Kosi River (approximately 4.5 - 5 hours, excluding stops).

Day 5 & 6: Namche

You will take a trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440 meters), one of the main stops on the trail up to Everest Base Camp (approximately 4 – 4.5 hours, excluding stops).

You will trek along the banks of the Dudh Kosi River and through Sagarmatha National Park, home to rare species like the snow leopard, musk deer and red panda. Note: The final stretch of the trek can get a little difficult as the climb is very steep.

During your stay, you will also hike to the Sherpa Museum (3,600 meters) which sheds light on the Sherpa culture through the ages, Sagarmatha National Park and the Everest Region.

Day 7: Tengboche

You will take a trek to Tengboche (3,860 meters), a small town renowned for its monastery. During your trek, you will have plenty of opportunities to photograph, enjoy and savour the view of Mount Everest and the other majestic peaks that surround it. Note: This trek usually lasts for about 5.5 - 6 hours.

Day 8 & 9: Dingboche

You will trek to Dingboche (4,450 meters), one of the last villages in the Everest region. This famous settlement is an ideal acclimatization point along Everest Base Camp Trail. The viewpoint in the village is renowned for its spectacular views of Mount Everest.

Day 10: Lobuche

You will trek to Lobuche (3 hours/ 4,910 meters), one of the most popular peaks in Nepal for treks that is located close to the Everest Base Camp. Note: This trek lasts for about 4 – 5 hours.

Day 11: Gorakhchep

You will trek to Everest Base Camp (5,365 meters) which is located at the foot of the Khumbu Glacier and is encircled by some of the most iconic, majestic peaks on Earth.

En-route, you will trek to Gorakhchep, the last inhabited village before the Everest Base Camp. Note: This trek usually lasts for about 7 hours.

Day 12: Pheriche

You will trek to Kalapatthar (5545 meters) from where you will see stunning views of Mount Everest and the surrounding mountain range.

You will trek to Pheriche, a small village in the region known to be one of the largest producers in the world for barley. Note: This trek usually lasts for about 6 -7 hours.

Day 13: Tashinga

You will take a trek to Tashinga (3,450 meters), a small village just off the main trail to Mount Everest.

You will walk through rhododendron and blue pine forests before reaching the village. Note: This trek usually lasts for about 6 -7 hours.

Day 14: Monjo

You will then set off on your journey and trek to Monjo (2,850 meters), a small village on the banks of the Dudh Kosi River. During your trek, you will see the stunning backdrop of Mt. Thamserku and Kangtaiga. Note: This trek usually lasts for about 6 hours.

Day 15: Lukla

You will trek to Lukla (2,743 meters), the stepping-stone for trekking in the Everest region. En route, you will stop at Phakding Village to visit Gumila Monastery, a centuries-old teaching monastery of the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan-Buddhism. Note: This trek lasts for about 5 hours.

Day 16 & 17: Kathmandu

You will fly to Kathmandu via Ramechhap.

During your stay, you will visit Thamel, a labyrinth of streets and alleys lined with souvenir shops, bars, hotels and restaurants.

You will also visit Pashupatinath Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Note: Non-Hindus are not allowed inside the temple. However, the sites surrounding the temple are very interesting.

Day 18: Depart Kathmandu

Today, you will be met by our colleague in the lobby of your hotel, and he will escort you to the airport in time to check-in for your homeward flight (details to be advised).
