Day 2
After breakfast, your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel and together, you will explore the highlights of Mumbai.
You will begin your tour of the city by visiting the Gateway of India. This victory arch was built to commemorate the 1911 royal visit of King George V and Queen Mary for the “Delhi Durbar”. You will also stumble upon the Fort District and Kala Ghoda area, which has a large number of the city's heritage buildings and is full of museums, art galleries, educational institutions, the High Court, Sessions Court, St. Thomas Cathedral and Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), formerly known as Victoria Terminus (VT).
Thereafter, you will drive to Churchgate station where you will get the opportunity to see the famed ‘dabbawallas’ or lunch box carriers in action. Around 5,000 dabbawallas collect and deliver 175,000 lunches every day and take the empty boxes back. Note: The Dabbawalla experience is not available on Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays.
You will then have lunch at Ekaa, a cuisine-agnostic restaurant that has a razor-sharp focus on local ingredients with seasonal offerings.
Next, you will then drive to Dhobi Ghat, a sight unique to this city. Dhobi Ghat or “washer folks’ place” is the world’s largest outdoor laundry. Also on the tour, you will visit Mani Bhavan, Gandhi’s home in Mumbai, and a truly inspiring place. It was from here that Gandhi initiated the Civil Disobedience, Satyagraha, Swadeshi, Khadi and Khilafat movements.
You will then return to your hotel.
