Uncovering the History and Culture of Maldives
Arrive in Male. On arrival, you will be met by our Peirce & Leslie colleague who will escort you to the resort’s jetty to board your speedboat to Lankanfushi, a private island in North Malé Atoll (approximately 20 minutes, excluding stops). Upon arrival, you will check-in to your resort.

You will stay at the lovely Gili Lankanfushi Maldives Resort. An eco-resort surrounded by natural beauty and rich marine wildlife, the resort offers a range of water activities – sailing, snorkeling, swimming, surfing and diving.

After breakfast, you will explore the city of Male with your guide.

You will first visit the National Museum of Maldives. The Museum houses an incredible collection of historical artefacts and relics, including religious paraphernalia, weapons and household wares. Its galleries also contain impressively carved stone and wood objects from the Buddhist era and the foregone pre-Islamic period.

This will be followed by a visit to the Friday Mosque. One of the oldest and most ornate mosques in Male, the coral stoned mosque was built in 1656.

Next up, you will visit the tomb of Al Babary. Built in 1153 AD, the tomb is dedicated to Al Babary, the Islamic scholar credited for the advent of Islam in the Maldives.

This will be followed by a visit to the tomb of Muhammad Thakurufaanu, the island’s legend who liberated the country from Portuguese rule.

Also on the tour will be a visit to the fish market. This is the soul and commercial epicenter of the country's most important industry – fishing. If you like, you can pick up some fresh fish and take it back to your resort to cook.

Afterwards, lunch will be served at Seagull Café, one of the nation’s first gelateria.

You will then return to your resort and the remainder of the day will be at leisure.

After breakfast, you will board your speedboat to Male’s International Airport in time to check-in for your flight to Hanimaadhoo International Airport.

On arrival, you will be met by our Peirce & Leslie colleague who will escort you to the resort’s jetty to board your speedboat to Shaviyani Atoll, a private island (approximately 50 minutes).Upon arrival, you will check-in to your resort.

Located on one of the country's largest resort lagoons, Fairmont Maldives, Sirru Fen Fushi is more than just a personal hideaway. The resort is perched near poster white sand beaches fringed with swaying palms, kissed by the turquoise waters of the 600-hectare lagoon and offers abundant aquatic activities with manta rays, turtles, large pods of bottlenose dolphins and spinner dolphins.

After breakfast, you will explore the Coralarium at Fairmont, Maldives’ first and only coral regeneration project in the form of an underwater art installation. Designed by celebrated British environmentalist and eco-artist, Jason deCaires Taylor, the abstract sculptures are inspired by the natural beauty of the coral reef and have been designed to imitate the ethereal formation of coral colonies.

After the visit, you may like to take snorkeling and diving tours around this coral art exhibition.

You will then return to your hotel and the remainder of the day will be at leisure.

After breakfast, you will visit Maroshi Island. A quiet island on the Shaviyani Atoll, Maroshi is an off-beat tourist destination renowned to house the oldest tree in Maldives. The same tree was also used by the national legend, Muhammad Thakurufaanu in his endeavor to free the country from the Portuguese.

You will then return to your hotel and the remainder of the day will be at leisure.

After breakfast, you will board your speedboat to Dhonakulhi Island where you will stay at Hideaway Beach Resort and Spa. On the way, you will visit Kanditheemu Island, another beautiful island believed to be the birthplace of the Maldivian language.

On arrival, you will check-in to your resort. The remainder of the day will be at leisure.

Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa is a luxury resort that offers guests various activities like snorkeling, scuba diving and fishing in the surrounding area. This award winning destination boasts some of the largest beachfront villas in the country.

The entire day will be at leisure to relax. You may like to try some fly fishing or long line fishing in true Maldivian style.

After breakfast, you will take a speedboat to Utheemu Island, known as the birthplace of the national legend, Muhammad Thakurufaanu.

You will also visit Utheemu Ganduvaru, the wooden palace that was once the home of Muhammad Thakurufaanu.

You will be escorted around the complex by a staff member of the museum and during your tour you will see the fascinating 500-year-old wooden interiors, including swing beds (used to keep cool in the heat), lamps that burn coconut palm oil and elaborate wooden carvings, plus a large palm-thatch shed used as a sleeping room for the guests.

You will then return to your hotel.

After breakfast, you will board your speedboat to Hanimaadhoo International Airport (approximately 15 minutes).

Upon arrival, you will be met by our Peirce & Leslie colleague who will help you to check-in for your domestic flight to Male.
