Day 1: Delhi/Bagdogra/Gangtok:
This morning take a flight to Bagdogra airport. From the airport drive five hours to Gangtok.
Day 2: Gangtok:
Sprawling along the ridge Gangtok has a spectacular setting. You will visit Dro-Dril Chorten
, the most important Buddhist Monastery here and the Research Institute for Tibetology
that was established in 1958.
The afternoon is free to wander on your own in the old bazaar which offers a plethora of souvenirs.
Day 3: Gangtok:
Today you visit Rumtek
monastery, the largest and the wealthiest of Sikkim's monasteries, with wealth valued at $ 1.2 million.
You will return to your hotel via the cottage industry
Day 4: Gangtok/Yuksum:
On the way to Yuksum you will visit Tashiding
, the gold-topped monastery considered to be one of the most sacred Chorten or memorial.
Day 5: Yuksum/Pelling:
From Yuksum you continue to Pelling on a two hour drive stopping at Khechopari Lake
, a sacred spot for Buddhists. This is where the first king was crowned in 1641.
Day 6: Pelling:
Today you visit Pemayangste
, the awe inspiring monastery that has an exceptional collection of Buddhist art.
Later visit the Randanste
, the ruined palace of 17th to 18th century.
Day 7: Pelling/Kalimpong:
After breakfast depart for Kalimpong. The drive is four hours.
In the afternoon visit the Zong Dog Palri Fo- Brang Gompa
founded in 1970's. End the tour at Dr Grahams home
to visit the Kindergarten section of the school. Originally started for the children of tea labourers the school today has 1500 children.
Day 8: Kalimpong/Darjeeling:
The two hour drive today takes you to Darjeeling.
This morning take the famous Toy Train
Monastery dating back to 1875. Later you will visit Tibetan Refugee Centre
and Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and Museum
Day 9: Darjeeling/Glenburn:
Rising early you will drive an hour to Tiger Hill
to watch sunrise on Kanchenjunga, Mount Everest.
After returning to the hotel for breakfast you will drive about three hours to a working tea estate Glenburn
Day 10: Glenburn:
In the morning you tour
the plantation and the tea factory. Later you will hike three hours
through the tea estate to the banks of Rangit River which borders Sikkim.
Day 11: Glenburn:
You take two hour hike today to Manjitar village
and spend the day wandering around at leisure stopping at village shops.
Day 12: Glenburn/Bagdogra/Delhi:
You will drive two hours down to Bagdogra airport to take the flight to Delhi. There will be rooms booked for you till your late night departure.
